Stay in Modern Comfort, Rooted in Nature

Our guest domes are designed for privacy, panoramic views, and a sense of connection to the island’s natural beauty. Built with local materials and minimal ecological impact, they balance simplicity with modern comfort.

Communal Dining, Inspired by Place

The heart of Kisoro Art Island is its central kitchen and dining space. All meals are prepared on-site using fresh, locally sourced ingredients — a culinary journey into Uganda’s vibrant flavors, shared around long tables that spark connection.

From site-specific installations to artist residencies, art is woven into every corner of the island. Guests will encounter large-scale works, workshops, and stories that honor both contemporary creativity and timeless tradition.

Immersive Adventures

Every stay at Kisoro Art Island is an invitation to slow down, connect deeply, and leave transformed.

  • Step into the mist-shrouded forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, just a 45 minute drive from Kisoro, where one of Africa’s rarest encounters awaits. Trek with expert rangers through ancient rainforest, winding along volcanic ridges and fern filled trails as the sounds of the jungle rise around you.

This experience is limited to only eight guests per gorilla family each day, ensuring both conservation and intimacy. It is perfect for travelers seeking meaning, adventure and connection with one of the planet’s most protected species.

  • Guests can immerse themselves in local culture through traditional cooking classes, mini language lessons, dance sessions and storytelling circles that share the region’s rich folklore. You can also learn age-old crafts such as pottery, weaving, dyeing and basketry under the guidance of local artisans. For the more adventurous explorer, there is also the option to visit a nearby site that houses preserved human remains, offering a rare glimpse into the region’s ancient burial traditions and cultural history.

For those who want to explore Ugandan cuisine more deeply, workshops on preparing dishes like matoke, rolex and luwombo offer a hands-on culinary experience using local ingredients. Language sessions in Rukiga or Rufumbira introduce key phrases and expressions, creating a meaningful connection to place and culture as you reflect on belonging and shared heritage.

All of these experiences can be arranged during your visit by speaking with the manager.

  • Guided hikes to safe viewing points overlooking the Virunga range, with restful breaks to take in the landscape, breathe the mountain air and enjoy the dramatic volcanic scenery.

Hotel management can arrange this experience for you during or prior to your arrival.

  • A guided tour of the island introduces you to its hidden paths, native plants, wildlife and panoramic viewpoints. Your guide will share stories of the land, local culture and the island’s natural history as you explore at an easy pace. It is a relaxed way to get oriented, discover favorite spots and appreciate the beauty and character of the island.

Hotel management can arrange with a local guide upon arrival.

  • Paddle boarding on Lake Mutanda offers a calm and unforgettable way to experience one of Uganda’s most beautiful high-altitude lakes. Glide across crystal clear waters surrounded by the Virunga volcanoes, passing small islands, traditional fishing canoes and abundant birdlife. Whether you are looking for a peaceful morning on the lake or a gentle afternoon adventure, paddle boarding here is both refreshing and deeply scenic. Hotel management can arrange equipment and a guide upon request.

  • We can arrange a private boat to take you out on the lake at sunrise or sunset, when the water is calm and the Virunga volcanoes glow with soft light. It is one of the most peaceful ways to experience the landscape, drifting past islands and listening to the sounds of the morning or evening settle over the lake. For guests who want to stay out a little longer, the boat can anchor for stargazing as the sky darkens, offering a clear, unspoiled view of the night sky reflected on the water.

  • Don’t miss the daily sessions with our artists in residence, where you can join in or simply observe as they work on live painting, sculpture or installations. It’s a relaxed opportunity to see the creative process unfold and connect with the artists during your stay.
